Pioneer of Green Building in Dallas Receives Recognition
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 21, 2008 -- Alan Hoffmann has been building with an environmental conscience for 13 years, and he's now considered a leader in the industry.
In today's energy conscious marketplace, it might seem inconceivable that in 1994, Alan Hoffmann, owner of Alan Hoffmann, LLC, was criticized for utilizing energy-efficient materials in his projects.
Although he faced open criticism, Alan Hoffmann never wavered in his dedication to green building. Today, the green movement has manifested in nearly every aspect of modern life, and nowhere is green ideology more necessary than in construction.
Today, Hoffmann isn't being criticized; he's being honored. In January, he was listed among Dallas' most influential green builders. After 13 years, Hoffmann's peers are beginning to catch on. Additionally, in March of 2008 he was voted one of Dallas' Best Home Builders by D Home Magazine.
In November 2007, Hoffmann attended the US Green Building Councils Greenbuild conference in Chicago, and he says attendance was up considerably from the 2006 Denver conference. "What that tells me is that more people are looking at [green building," he says.
Hoffmann uses insulated concrete forms or ICFs, which are energy-efficient and stand up against hurricane force winds. Last year, Hoffmann built the first LEED-certified platinum house in Dallas. This is the highest rating granted by the US Green Building Councils LEED for Homes program.
Many people associate the "green" label with higher costs; however, Hoffmann's bottom line is affordability. "Green is completely affordable," he says. "The Cost of ownership is less." The true cost of a building is completely linked to heating and cooling costs, and as a result of the continuously rising energy prices, green buildings will continue to become less expensive.
Hoffmann's goal is to create less expensive products, and he's on a task force that advises the City Council of Dallas on matters such as instituting higher energy standards for new and existing buildings. He says with regard to the energy and environmental concerns that we face today, "I just don't want to be part of the problem, I want to help bring about solutions."
